Why is there a bulge or crack on my ceiling?

What is Spalling Concrete?
Spalling concrete is in essence, the result of the steel bars corroding in the concrete slab when it is exposed to water & carbon dioxide. This causes the concrete to crack and bulge.
Why do I have Spalling Concrete and should I be worried?
There are a variety of reasons why this can happen, but most commonly, it is due to natural deterioration or not allowing enough time for the concrete to fully cure during construction. If left untreated, the steel reinforcement will de-bond possibly causing major structural damage.
How do I fix Spalling Concrete?
Step 1: Removal of the Spalled Concrete - Remove the concrete at the spalled areas to expose the corroded steel bars Step 2: Clean and apply rust converter to the corroded steel bars - Scrape and clean the exposed steel bars and use a wire brush to remove any rust
- Apply 2 coats of anti-rust paint to the steel bars Step 3: Patch the hacked area - Apply a bonding agent to the affected surface to ensure proper adhesion
- Patch the hacked area using polymer modified cement mortar
Step 4: Paint the area
-Paint over the patched area to match the rest of your ceiling
